Alabama electrification membership corporations files, 1935-1939.

This series, Ala. electrification membership corporations files, deals with the REA and the different electrical corporations which were formed to bring electricity to the rural areas of Ala. There are four corporations with extensive files. These are: the Clarke Washington Electrification Membership Corporation (2 cu.ft.); the Cherokee Electrification Membership Corporation (1.5 cu.ft.); the Baldwin Electrification Membership Corporation (1 cu.ft.); and the South Ala. Electrification Membership Corporation (1 cu.ft.). Other corporations (.5 cu.ft.) include: Black Belt Electrification Authority; Southeast Ala. Electrification Membership Corporation; Northeast Ala. Electrification Membership Corporation; Central Ala. Electrification Membership Corporation; Joe Wheeler Electrification Membership Corporation; Dixie Electrification Membership Corporation; Butler County Electrification Membership Corporation; Cullman County Electrification Corporation; Chambers Tallapoosa Electrification Membership Corporation; Black Warrior Electrification Membership Corporation; and the Lee County Power Association, Incorporated. The types of records include: incoming letters; publications; correspondence of Chairman Gordon Persons; reports; forms; maps; engineering blueprints; contracts; and bulletins. The records are divided by corporation but are otherwise unarranged. The folders within each corporation division are labelled by subject. Topics discussed include: weekly progress; inspections; rates; meters and meter specifications; publicity; Public Works Board; engineering; legal; development and operations divisions; river crossings; supplies and requisitions; contracts for poles, loans, and meters; forms; telephone interference; highway department; engineers (name files); contractors; meetings of directors; inventories; incorporation papers; plans; engineering blueprints; and many others. Many corporations are one folder in length and contain correspondence, incoming letters, surveys, and engineering blueprints. This series documents several Electrification Membership Corporations in Ala. during the 1930s and details the different activities performed by the corporations.
